View of the herb garden and conservatory in the Palmer House service yard, as it was for the Designer’s Show House in 1989. Landscaping designed by R.J. Vickers for the Herbery at Rattleberry Farm, Hadlyme, CT. Conservatory designed by Arnold Copper and William Strohm of Madison Avenue, NY. The lower left corner also features the lily garden, as designed by Warren P. Leach of Tranquil Lake Nursery, Inc of Rehoboth, MA. "This dooryard garden is planted with Hererocallis cultivars, or daylilies. Daylily breeding has produced improvements and variety in color, form, size, height and bloom season of flowers not found in the common tawny "roadside" daylily. The daylilies planted here are but a small representation; flowers come in many shades and blends of yellow, melon, salmon, pink, orange and red. Stella de Oro, planted in the front, is a continuous bloomer until frost. By mixing bloom seasons one can have flowers from the end of May to September. Daylilies are low maintenance perennials that do not need frequent division, aren't fussy about soils, have few pests and will reward the gardener with beautiful flowers."Collection
