framed document, A State of Connecticut Note (number 1314) signed by John Lawrence, Treasurer of the State, payable to Joshua Swan of Stonington, Connecticut, for 50 pounds, 9 shillings and 6 pence. These notes were issues by the state to raise funds from the public support of the war effort. When paid, often years later, a cancellation hole was made in the document. February 1, 1781
