Collection of ledgers and account books (8) of James Dean, re. Dean's Mill, with 2 photocopied papers with background on the James Dean family and Dean's Mill. *James Dean Address Book, 1796 *James Dean Accounts, 1793-1800 *James Dean Accounts, 1801-1809 *James Dean Address Book and Accounts, 1810-1815 *James Dean Address Book and Accounts, 1814-1816 *James Dean Accounts, 1816-1818 *James Dean Accounts, 1819-1828 *James Dean Accounts, 1821-1824 James Dean I, a blacksmith, came to Stonington in 1670 and established his smith that year. His son, James Dean Jr., followed in the smith trade, but also learned the business of dressing homespun wool cloth and established a fulling mill to aid this process in 1800 between Quiambaug and the present Dean's Mill. in 1807 James Dean Jr. and his son John built another mill (Dean's Mill) further upstream and added a grist mill.
