Scope and Content

This Yawman and Erbe Shanonn File is a board clip with arch file at top and a two-hole punch at the bottom and a compressor cover is made out of maple and brass. The shannon Arch Files were used inside of letter filing cabinets by attaching them to boars so they stay in place. The Shannon Arch Files was an early file cabinet for bussiness. This was invented by Mr. James Shannon in 1879. The Top brass clip is embossed with "Yawman & Erbe MFG. Co. Roches Ter. N.Y. Shanonn's Pat. July'29'79" The label on the center of the compressor cover reads: "974.6 Ston. Fire Dept. Stonington Borough / Acts of Burgesses in regard to Fire protection. / Early records of Fire Depts. of Stonington Borough. / (typed copies in board folder.)
