Scope and Content

A collection of letters relating to the sale and lawsuit of the ship Iolas, from 1846 to 1847. Primary among the letter writers is Ephraim Williams and Charles H. Woolsey of Jersey City. According to the letters, there was a debt on the ship and much of the correspondence is about offers and reasonable amounts for the sale of the ship. Mr. Silas Wood is often mentioned.
