A collection of early documents relating to the school system in Stonington. 1. Minutes and cost of the school house lot on Stonington point, 1770 2. List of subscriptions for schoolhouse and schoolhouse lot, 1770 and 1782 3. Visiting committee report on the deficiency of Poquonack School in Groton, 1803 4. Deed from William Chesebrough 2nd and Ephraim Williams for land to build a school with money raised by Capt. Amos Palmer and others in the community (listed in the document), 1803 5. An agreement to pay Mr. Jason Park as an instructor at the Stonington Academy, $350 per year, 1807. 6. School bill for the 14th district of Sotnington, 1811. Shows how much person paid for board and firewood. List of names is as follows: Coddington Billings, Stephen Babcock, Jedidiah Putnam, Joseph Noyes, Benjamin Clarke, John Noyes, Esther Miner, Samuel Chesebrough, Col. Peleg Noyes, Thomas Randall, Elisha Wheeler, Betsey Palmer. 7. Aug. 29, 1782 concerning payment for the school lot owned by William Chesebrough 2nd. The subscribers listed will pay the amount to Captain Amos Palmer, which then includes a list of names - including Zebulon Hancox.
