Two booklets produced by the Providence and Stonington Steamship Company. The first is a Summer 1886 catalog of excursion rates for the season. There are descriptions of the destinations, as well as advertisements from the New England area. This book is very fragile and appears to have been repaired in the past with plastic tape. The second booklet is "The Past and Present of Steam Navigation on Long Island Sound" by Henry Whittemore. This was written contemporaneously with the Columbian Exposition in Chicago (World's Fair) and details the beginning of steam navigation, through the present, with many photographs and drawings of the luxury liners of the time period. Tucked into the front cover of this booklet is a time table card from 1887 for the Stonington and Watch Hill Ferry.Collection
