A collection of four documents relating to the history of the town of Stonington. Two of them appear to be well researched, prepared documents on the early history and settlement of Stonington. The other two documents are personal recollections written by community members.
1. Paper on Stonington beginning at the year 1600 that details the lands of the local Indian population, as well as the struggle between states and the establishment of the town of Stonington.
2. "The Early Settlers of Stonington" by Mrs. Ira Hart Palmer, 1895. This details more specifically the people, places and events that happened within the first 200 years of the town's history. Items covered include: William Chesebrough, Thomas Stanton, Thomas Minor, Walter Palmer, Captain George Denison, Ann Borodell, the first meeting house, the first school-master, the Revolutionary war, "The Journal of the Times", Hulda Hull, and midshipman Powers who was killed during the Battle of Stonington.
3. Personal recollections of Samuel H. Chesebrough "The North part of Stonington Borough as it appeared in 1850", as he recalled in 1897. This includes his map of numbered buildings that are described in his reminiscences.
4. Handwritten recollections of Ms. Eli (?) Palmer, "Stonington in Ante Bellum days". This is mostly anecdotal evidence concerning the primary people, places and events that occured in the town during that time.Collection
