A collection of original documents relating to the Connecticut militia in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. There is a request for 900 yards of yard-wide tow cloth, written in 1777 and signed by the Selectmen of Stonington (Charles Phelps, Joseph Palmer, Nathaniel Minor, John Breed Jr. William Risseter, Joshua Prentice, Samuel Morgan). An undated muster roll of the members of the 6th company 8th regiment infantry of the Connecticut militia; Francis Sheffield Captain, Elisha Noyes Lieutenant, Dudley Brown Ensign. An order dated 1832 issued by Francis Sheffield, calling all members of the 6th Company, 8th Regiment infantry to appear at Gilbert Collins home to drill on 21st September. Regimental orders, issued 1841 to meet at the hotel of James H. Hyde in Franklin, signed by H.H. Osgood, and received by Lieutenant Samuel Clift. There is a letter from Massachusetts war records to Richard Anson Wheeler, dated 1893, which lists the Connecticut men who served in the Revolutionary war with Massachusetts regiments, which includes a list of Stonington residents. There is also a newspaper clipping from 1907, about a military incident in 1781 with Jonathan Brooks.Collection
