Scope and Content

A collection of three tax documents from Stonington. The first is general instructions from Hartford on how to compute tax rates for specific scenarios, which was sent to Captain Amos Palmer, principle assessor of the town in 1799. The second form is a public statement of the amounts paid by the citizens in the 5th collection district of Connecticut, which is most likely Stonington, dated 1815. The last document is the 1894 equivalent of an individual income tax form that is blank. This has been scanned. The first page is instructions, with the questions and deductions inside, produced by the Internal Revenue Service.
