Scope and Content

A collection of drafts edited by Charles Mallory Williams of the diary of Joseph Denison. Mr. Denison graduated from Yale College in 1784, received a Masters Degree in 1787, and was tutor in the college when obliged to leave on account of his tuberculosis. He was the son of Deacon Joseph Denison, who built the house that was the Moss homestead. Joseph Denison died August 19, 1789. According to Williams, the three part diary included a general summary of his illness and treatment, and was carried on by those with whom he was living. The diary was found among some papers belonging to Williams' grandmother, who was the daughter of the author's elder brother Amos. This paper was presented by Charles M. Williams to the Stonington Historical Society in 1911.
