Description

A small black and white photograph pasted to a black cardboard backing. The image shows the dam at Dean's Mill being built. Reverse side reads: This is a picture of the building of the upper dam at the Dean's Mill Water Works, that supplies water to Stonington and Mystic. This was probably about 1890. The people in the picture are Mr. Asa Wilcox in the lower part of the dam; Mr. Calvin Wilcox, brother of Asa in the upper part near the hoist, and next to him was their cousin Fred Wilcox. The oxen belonged to Asa and Calvin who inherited them from their father, Nelson. This picture was given to me September 28, 1950 by Miss Phebe Wilcox, youngest sister of Asa and Calvin. I am second cousin to Phebe Wilcox, as her mother and my grandfather were brother and sister - Charles F. Noyes.
