A small red friendship book belonging to Anna D. Babcock, and seemingly purchased at a second-hand shop for $1.50 around 1953.
This may be the Anna D. Babcock who was born in 1837 to Giles Babcock and Ann Elizabeth Denison in Louisiana. A few years later the family is back in Stonington. Anna married Samuel Wood and they had two daughters, Mable and Laura.
This friendship book begins in 1857, when Anna would have been twenty years old. Many in the book address it to "Amelia", which may have been her nickname. It includes the following names:
