Scope and Content

A collection of Palmer documents, from various sources, spanning from 1778 to 1884. Included in this folder are: 1. undated recipe for coloring fabric with camwood(African Sandalwood) by Abigail Palmer 2. Repairs to the Nathan Palmer house and farm, 1778 and 1779. 3. Note of Peleg Palmer to pay Vose Palmer ten silver dollars, September 28, 1785. 4. Letter from Amos Palmer in Hartford, dated May 16, 1797 recounting the newly appointed judges and representatives. 5. Letter to Captain A. Palmer, merchant from W. Rhodes, written from Westerly, November 2, 1802 concerning bills to be paid to Mr. Williams. Very fragile - has been repaired. 6. Two receipts of payment from Voluntown. One is dated May 28, 1807 and concerns Gershom Ray receiving $19 from Joseph Palmer. The second is also from Voluntown, dated April 16, 1808 and concerns Mr. Lebbeus Coon receiving ten dollars from Stephen Palmer. 7. An indenture or lease for Jabez Ray from Joseph Palmer, dated April 12, 1809 for about four or five acres. 8. Receipt dated April 19, 1810. "Received of Joseph and Chester Palmer eight barrels and one hoshead containing household goods to carry on to Albany and store them with henery cool to be delivered to said Palmer when called for..." Andrew Pendleton. 9.An accounting page from North Stonington dated May 20, 1811. Includes all receipts and names many residents along with what the money was for in some cases. 10. North Stonington, June 18, 1811 Mr. Joseph Palmer bought of N. Pendleton, includes a list of goods. 11. Two small scraps given to the Society by Louisa Palmer of Honolulu, HI in 1978. Each one certifies Joseph Palmer 2nd as having been chosen as fifer for the military company in Lenox. One is dated May 1814, the other May 1815. 12. Letter from Emma Palmer to her brothers, George and Courtland, 1818. She writes about a sickness passing through Stonington and many died. Fragile - has been repaired on all four pages. 13. Deed for land from Simeon Palmer to Austin Beebe, 1827. 14. Stonington Savings Bank check to Dr. Palmer for $27, dated May 31, 1833 from Elisha Faxon Jr. 15. Check from Stonington Bank dated October 27, 1845 to Doctor George E. Palmer for $50 from George Hubbard. 16. Deed from Thomas Palmer to Samuel Stanton 3rd, dated May 16, 1855. 17. Letter to George E. Palmer, 1838 18. Legal guardianship of George W. Palmer to Benjamin F. Stanton 2nd, 1884.
