A collection of five documents relating to Silas Beebe of Stonington, dating between 1831 and 1841. 1. Dated 28 Feb 1831, the subscribers authorize Wm. Williams and Silas Beebe to be the agents for purchasing or having built a whaling ship, not exceeding $250. Includes a list of the subscribers: William Williams, SIlas Beebe, Simeon Fish, Benjamin Stoddard, George Haley, Charles Mallory, Joseph Mason, Asa Fish, Joseph S. Avery, Noyes & Ashby, Sanford Stark, Lyman Dudley, Horatio Fish, George Wolfe, Jesse Crary, Elisha Rathbun and James Gallup. 2. Dated 2 May 1833, the subscribers authorize Silas Beebe as agent to purchase a whaling ship, Mystic Bridge. Subscribers are: Silas Beebe, Charles Fordham, Thomas Farle, James Hyde, George Haley, Jeremiah Holmes, Simeon Haley, John Denison, BF Palmer and Thomas Williams, Joseph Cottrell, Elisha Faxon, WIlliam Pendleton, J.D. Mason, Isaac D. Miner, B.F. Stoddard. May be the subscribers of the Blackstone? 3. Letter from Robert Stevens of Newport to Capt. Silas Beebe of Groton, 7 Jan 1835 concerning payment for shares in the Blackstone. 4. Receipt from Stonington 1 Apr 1839. Silas Beebe sold $4,500 worth of whale oil to David R. Green of New Bedford on behalf of Ephraim Williams. 5. Sales of Fur, seal skins for account of Capt. Silas Beebe, 1841 New York, 9 Jun. Includes letter to Silas Beebe from George Meacham, concerning no interest in "elephant oil".
