Scope and Content

A collection of documents belonging to and created by Coddington Billings (1770-1845), son of Captain Sanford Billings and Lucy Geer. He was married first to Eunice Williams Wheeler and they had four children, only three of which survived to adulthood. He married second, Ann Wilcox Babcock and together they had three more children. The items contained in this folder are as follows: 1. January 19, 1801 - Coddington Billings Esq, to be agent and attorney for the Town of Stonington, signed by Stephen Avery 2nd, town clerk. 2. June 1, 1806 - Selectmen of Stonington elect one of their own, Coddington Billings, to join a committee looking into a petition lodged by Enoch Burrows about the construction of a road near the Mystic River. 3. September 4, 1809 - James Noyes appointed Coddington Billings Esq. to defend the town against a suit brought by Allyn Campbel of Voluntown for doctering the Widow Mary Edwards. 4. April 24, 1811 - Deed from Jonathan Phelps to Coddington Billings for $10,000. 5. November 7, 1814 - Coddington Billings paid the town after an error by the selectmen. 6. Distribution of Real and personal Estate of Coddington Billings, deceased, made by the distributer October 9, 1845. 7. Harriet Billings (1832-1876) in account current and interest account to July 1, 1846 with Ann Billings(1821-1890), Guardian (we presume it to be her elder sister, not her mother), as well as another dated July 31, 1847.
