Description

Photograph from the Harry Northup album (2015.019.002),cyanotype with enlarged print. Caption from Harry Northrup: "A view of Orchard Street, a dirt road at the time, crossing the railroad tracks. The track came off the main line and went to the steamboat dock. Several of the houses shown are still there. Note the little shack where the gate keeper used to stay, but there doesn't seem to be any gates. The stone fence posts in front of the near white house are still there. On the right, the land this side of the white (fence?), where the two sets of tracks are, is now La Grua Park. Part of the land on the South side of the fence was the York Estate The picture with the water tower in it shows Railroad Ave. and La Grua Park now. The picture was taken from the Congregational Church Tower. Note the end of the Church roof." With snapshot of modern Orchard Street.
