Record of a subscription taken up by the residents of the Town of Stonington to pay for repairs to the home of Rose. "Whereas Rose, a colored woman of this Town of Stonington, is a widow, old and poor, and whereas her dwelling house is in wretched condition, the roof being decayed, leaky and insufficient to shield from wind and rain the tenants of the house, the floors being defective and wanting - we therefore, the subscribers, for the purpose of enabling Rose to put her house in tenable state of repair, voluntarily agree and engage to pay to Rose, the sum respectively annexed to our names. Stonington, October 10th, 1839."
