Black and white copy print (4), sidewheel steamer RHODE ISLAND. Given to the Society by Harry Northup before his death. With note: "A picture of the big side wheel steamer, the RHODE ISLAND, at the Stonington Docks. The steamer was one of the Stonington fleet, with all the vessels named for the New England States except Vermont. The vessel is very long, probably around 350 feet. To keep her from hogging, sagging and twisting in a big seaway, she had what they called Hog Frames to keep her stiff. The Hog Frames are the arched shaped steel framework that runs from just Fwd of the wheel house all the way aft, just short of the end of the cabin structure. It must have been great riding on this vessel.Collection
