Description

Black and white photograph copy print, Hyde's Crossing. Given to the Society by Harry Northup before his death. With note: "This is a view of Hyde's Crossing looking South on Elm Street. There are still a lot of Elm trees on the East side of the street. I believe the workmen are digging holes for the foundations of the crossing gates as there are none in this picture. There are several teams of horses and wagons on the street and a neat old car. Notice how well dressed the men are for the middle of the day in summer. Today they would probably be wearing shorts and t-shirts. To me this was a dangerous crossing, it is on a very bad curve on the tracks. Today there is no vehicle traffic at this crossing and with an overpass and stairs for the pedestrians to cross over the tracks, the problem is eliminated."
