Description

Phebe S. Denison was born in Stonington to Frank and Mary Denison, the youngest of their three children, on July 4, 1900. Phoebe’s father supported his family by working as a moulder in a foundry. After graduating from Stonington High School in the class of 1919, she took a job as a stenographer in the office of one of the local mills – probably American Velvet, or the Atwood Machine Company – both nearby her home on School Street. On November 4, 1930, Phebe married Anthony Ruisi of Westerly. They set up their home on Westminster Street in Westerly, and had three children: Mary, Helen and Thomas. Her husband, Anthony worked as a machinist at Electric Boat. Phebe was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church in Westerly. She died in late October of 1984 and is buried in Saint Sebastian Cemetery in Westerly.
