Description

Miniature profile portrait on ivory of unidentified woman facing viewer's right. Great detail of dotted swiss bonnet with blue bows and ruffled fichu over black dress. Back ground is grey fading to shadow around lady's profile. Framed behind glass in rectangular black wood (laquer?) with metalic gold oval inset, 2-1/2 x 3"h. Frame, 4 x 4-1/2". Handwritten on verso "Portrayed at 37 years of age." C. 1835? One of pair with PH1989.179.001, male miniature, presumably her husband.
