Description

Photo postcard with sepia photo enlargement, of hurricane damage to Hancox Street, 1938. Given to the Society by Harry Northup before his death. With note: "This is a view of Hancox Street looking North after the 1938 Hurricane. Stonington had a lot of destruction from this storm. You can see what it did to the East side of the street. The tidal wave had a lot to do with it, when this huge wave rolled in. The houses on the West side of the street were built by our old friend (Zebbie Hancox), so I have been told. Today they have all been remodeled by New York (off Islands) as they say. On the East side of the street there was a restaurant, called the Sea Village, that also took a beating."
