Postcard showing Lighthouse, Stonington Conn. 1911. Typed note in sleeve "1911 card - in 1822 Congress appropriated $3500 for a lighthouse. The original built in 1823 and lighted in 1824. The first keeper's salary $300 a yr. Erosion caused old light to be moved further back from the Point. New site purchased and material from old light used in new building completed in 1840. This was discontinued in 1889 upon establishment of light on West breakwater. Lighthouse keeper's house used as dwelling for West breakwater keeper. Since owned by several families. Stonington Historical Society bought lighthouse for museum in August 1929. Postcard sent to Miss Harriet F. Thompson of Westerly RI Oct. 9, 1911
