Description

Barometer/thermometer originally belonging to Capt. A.S. Palmer and said to have been installed on every ship he was captain of. Carved rosewood or mahogany(?) with turned, swirled themometer case, brass container at stem for mercury; mounted on 12" long gimble mount. Placed in front hall after Alexander retired from the sea. Purchased by SHS in 1976 at auction. For Sale as of May 2006: "A particularly good bow-fronted mahogany stick barometer by Henry Frodsham of Castle St. Liverpool.Henry Frodsham is recorded as working between 1828 and 1851."
