Scope and Content

The Clippers "The clipper ships of the 19th century were the ultimate sailing ships, unsurpassed in speed by any other wind-powered vessel. Because of their grace and majesty, they were dubbed "moonrakers," "skyscrapers," and "greyhounds of the sea." Traveling distances of over two thousand miles in a week, they opened up trade routes to the Orient, introducing the American public to new ideas and experiences. THE CLIPPERS provides a unique look at these versatile ships and how they shaped our history."
