Pocket watch of Col. John W. Hull (1789-1879) of Stonington, veteran of the War of 1812.
Colonel Hull's obituary, published in The Stonington Mirror, Thursday, March 6, 1879: "Col. John W. Hull, who died at his residence just north of the borough on Friday last, was probably the oldest resident of the town at the time of his decease. He was one of our most energetic and successful business men and during his life held many offices of honor and trust. For over a quarter of a century he was president of the Mystic bank and was largely interested in other banking institutions. At the time of the bombardment of the borough in 1814 he commanded a company of its defenders and later in life became Colonel of one of the militia regiments, an office he held for a long time with honor to the State and credit to himself. For several years past the Colonel has been in feeble health. Since the death of his estimable wife some three years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Davis have kept house for him and attended to his wants and had they been of his own family they could not have given him more attention. The Colonel leaves four children, two daughters and two sons, one of the litter, Charles S., being a resident of the borough."
