Scope and Content

The "Draper" at Erie Basin waiting for inspection. Notes: Photo shows the Draper at Erie Basin waiting for drydock space for inspection. To quote my mother, Vera Tillotson, she recalls "I was present when the Inspection Party came aboard - they were very impressed with the vessel and the Draper passed their rigid examinations with flying colors." Also, "I went to Providence on the train from Stonington to purchase the fittings for the Captain's quarters, where I was met by Mrs. Draper in her electric automobile! We chose all the utensils, bedding, dishes and material for the porthole curtains which I later sewed by hand!" The work on the Draper took many months but when completed, she was indeed a floating palace, even to the hand paintings on the paneling in the after cabins. 93-4
