Description

Eskimo harpoon brought back to Stonington by Capt. Edmund Fanning on a voyage around the world. The walrus tusk at the upper end was used to test the ice to make sure it was thick enough to walk on. At the lower end, the harpoon (which is missing) would extend from the walrus baculum. The various pieces are tied together with a combination of baleen and leather.
