Description

Pocket watch of Capt. William Potter, round pocket watch with Roman Numerals around the outside and a smaller round section by the "VI" with small lines for the numbers. Belonged to Captain William Potter who commanded the company manning the battery at the 1814 Battle of Stonington. Swiss bar movement, ebauch caliber, club tooth escape wheel with right angle lever, made for Michael Isaac (M.I. or M.J.) Tobias from 1830 to 1868. Engraving appears to be Horta Bay, Faial, Azores. Compare print by Louis August de Sainson, 1835. William Potter was the first lighthouse keeper of Stonington. Gift of Henry A. Pendleton
