Casey Jones (standing) of Old Saybrook, CT during the Winterover at Palmer Station, Antarctica 1978. Casey would later return to Antarctica, working as a cook at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. On January 9, 1980, Mr. Jones was killed while removing snow from a vertical intake shaft when the column gave way.
