Description

black and white photograph of flooding from the Hurricane of 1938 at the field of Pine Point. Handwritten note from Hetsy Brown on back: "Field at Pine Point, flooded after a hurricane. This was a most uncommon occurence! (The flooding that is!) (Sept. 21, '38 Hurricane). The last train from New York that day stalled on the tracks crossing Stonington harbor. The passengers left the train, followed the tracks to safety. All but one passenger survived. An unfortunate Negro porter drowned. (About a dozen passengers spent the night and next day at Pine Point. For years, the family received cards at Christmas from them)."
