Stonington, 1775 Sept 18 [19 days after the Battle of Stonington]. It is an order to the State Treasurer "Pay Capt. John Breed, Jr. Capt of the 3rd Military company of Stonington. Being the sum allowed for his Company Training...." Signed by Charles Phelps (1732-1808), Joseph Palmer. On verso Nathaniel Minor, representative of the State Assembly, signs a receipt on behalf of Capt. Breed Charles Phelps was a physician, judge, a state representative, Stonington selectman, justice of the peace and a member of the Committee of Correspondence.
