Stonington 1775 Sept. 2 [3 days after the attack on Stonington]
Capt. Oliver Smith writes "The State of Connecticut to John Williams Dr. L3-0-0 Ship Bread [hardtack]. Delivered by the people which came to assist Long pint when Capt. Willis attact it."
He adds "1775 October 20. To 3 Sparrs for the fort...L2-2-0..." signed by John Williams.
Bottom of this document Smith adds an ADS, "Stonington January 8, 1778, This day examined the above a count and find it to be ritely Charged for me. Oliver Smith Majr."
On verso, Smith adds an order "Please to pay the within a Count to Capt. Nathan Palmer..." This is signed by Williams. At bottom is a one line AD (a receipt) unsigned by Oliver Ellsworth, but signed by Capt. Nathan Palmer, who succeeded Oliver Smith was the militia leader in Stonington.
