Stonington 30th July 1776 (26 days after signing of Declaration of Independence) Certification of quantity and quality of salt petre made by Mr. Salmon Treat Richardson for war effort. "This may certify that a Quantity of Salt Petre offered for Inspection, by Mr. Salmon Treat Richardson, the maker thereof, amounting to Seven Pounds weight, is well and carefully inspected, and according to my best judgment and skill, the same is found to be pure, clean and dry, free from any corrupt mixture, ..."
