"Honoured fathar I take this oppertunity to enform you I am well at presant and David has not Bin well for sum Days But is got very harty again threw the goodness of God and I hope these Lines will find you in the Same. We have 31 miles from New York about northest [.] We truck a Line from the White ponds [Plains?] to the North River [Hudson]. Day Before yesterday we had a battel (2). It said By Sum prisoners we kild 400 of our Enemy [.] We ware about thre 2[?] of a mild [mile] from the Ragalars incampment[.] we take ten or twelve every day of the enemy. Plese remembour my Love to Darias [Derias] Dennison and wife[.] I shold Be glad of a paire of shoes if we sta[y] much Longer and David Likewise[.] we cannot by [buy] them under [?] and so no more at presant But I remain your Son til Death.

Amos Miner (born 1754) was the eldest of nine children born to David Miner and Bethia Miner of Stonington. Amos served in Col. Smith's Regiment, Captain William Stanton's Company and saw action at the Battle of White Plains.
