Description

Hollow bamboo cane with bone handle. Fitted with a metal shaft containing 6 vials of medicine (2 are missing), used by Dr. George D. Stanton, late 19th century (probably 1840 - 1890). The original 6 vials of medicine included: 1. Coc. tr. asclepac (probably a derivative of milkweed), 2. T. lobeliet, 3. Suaphia granules, d. Cono. tr. ergotamine (to treat migraines), 5. Trinitrin, 6. Heart tonic & stimulant (manufactured by John Wyeth & Bro.)
