Description

Stone ax used for felling trees. Nickname "Snoopy" Used by Indians to fell trees, not as a weapon. The "chopping" edge stained by ashes from fires used to weaken tree base. Stone "head" 8" long, 10 1/2" circumference - grey granite; handle 29" long, 5" circumference - possibly chestnut; hafted by sinew. Stone head found near Anguilla Brook Stonington CT by Mr. Alfred Ogden. He had it hafted in Exeter RI and gave it to Emily Lynch around 1990. Stone probably 1,000 years old.
