Description

China Trade ornate silver mug, ca. 1845, brought back from China by Captain Nathaniel Palmer, and inscribed in the cartouche, "Uncle Nat to Olive." Maker's mark: KHC. "Olive" was Capt. Nat's great niece. She was a daughter of Sarah Fanning, who was the daughter of Juliet Palmer Fanning (d. 1845 age 37), Nat's sister. Juliet's daughter, Sarah Fanning (1825-1919) m. 1845 Edward Anthony Bradford (1813-1872). They lived in New Orleans, England, and elsewhere. There were two daughters named Olive, probably both died young, having been born before 1853.
