Description

Cyanotype and color enlargement, Broad Street, Stonington Borough. Given to the Society by Harry Northup before his death. With note: "A picture of Broad Street looking almost due West. If the buggy in the picture kept going it would go right to the edge of Stonington Harbor's East shore. The tree bordered land to the left is now the town's park and in the center is the location of the public library. To the rear right is where the new Catholic Church stands, replacing the old one. Just beyond the Church on the right is where the present day Post Office is located. The street surface is still gravel. At the intersections of the streets, they put large stones for cross walks so that you wouldn't have to walk in the dirt or in the mud if it rained. Wouldn't it be interesting to know the name of the gentleman walking along the side walk."
