Hooked Rug hanging, woven by women living in an "old ladies home" in the 1930s. The scene depicts the lighthouse on a sunny day, with visitors drinking tea under umbrella's on the grounds (the lighthouse served tea outside during these days)The rug was made in a Tuberculosis sanatorium near Mt Kisco, NY. A woman from Westerly named Grace Brindle designed and supervised making the rug by the patients. Grace was an occupational therapist at the facility. The two figures with yellow sweaters down in the lower right quadrant are Lorenzo and Billings Fairbrother, twins. [This last bit given by Prudence Fairbrother Meehan, 2024]Collection
