Description

Cyanotype with color enlargement, view at the corner of High Street and Water Street, Stonington Borough. Given to the Society by Harry Northup before his death. With note: "We are at the corner of High Street and Water Street, looking South. The house behind the iron fence belongs to Charlie Ryon and his sister. The steeple on the Church isn't there anymore and so is most of the building itself. Note the two tall flag poles further down the street. I wonder how they raised them up vertical in those days. The road surfaces are still gravel and there are a number of Elm trees in the picture. Also, I see five horse and carriages in the photo, three on the West side of the street and two on the East side. On the near left corner there is a fire hydrant so the town must have had city water when the picture was taken. There is also a beautiful street light next to the hydrant."
