Description

After the accidental launch of the SS Lansing, on May 20, 1919. The image shows the staircase crafted for Miss Dorothy Mercadante, who was meant to christen the ship. A photographer documents the scene at center, standing where the ship slipped from its blocks early and launched itself. The Lansing steamship was rebuilt by the Ship Construction and Trading Company, Inc. of Stonington for the Nafra Company of New York.
