Book, "Uncle Sam in Barbary: A Diplomatic History," about America's first hostage crisis (in 1785 two American ships were captured and the crews were held captive by corsairs from Algiers). Capt. John Lamb of Stonington (1740-1804) played a key role in the hostage negotiations. Book is autographed by the author with an inscription to Mary Thacher, of the Stonington Historical Society, who contributed to his research.
