Description

After the accidental launch of the SS Lansing, on May 20, 1919. Dignitaries, company representatives and their families arrived for the launching, only to see that the ship had slid into the water early. Despite the ship launching itself early, these photographs were probably taken for publicity for the two companies. Borough buildings are visible in the background, and the ship's track is visible in the foreground. The Lansing steamship was rebuilt by the Ship Construction and Trading Company, Inc. of Stonington for the Nafra Company of New York.
