Scope and Content

This photograph collection primarily consists of the Hall and Williams family and their extended relations of Chester County, Pennsylvania. At some point in the 20th century the family and photographs extend to Meadville of Crawford County, Pennsylvania.

Context

Photograph (c. 1910-1920?) of Edwin Gilbert (1857-1943) and Lydia J. Cox Gilbert (1859-1942), Abigail ("Abbie") W. Gilbert Wollaston (1884-1966), Percy Elwood Wollaston (1881-1959), Elwood Glisson (1855-1938), Amy Ida Williams Glisson (1857-1944), and Ada E. Pearl Gilbert (1895-1985) playing instruments. Lydia J. Cox Gilbert was a cousin of Amy Ida Williams Glisson through their shared grandparents Jesse Williams (1794-1872) and Sarah Hoopes (1791-1839). Edwin Gilbert was her husband and Abigail W. Gilbert Wollaston their daughter, wife of Percy Elwood Wollaston. Ada E. Pearl Gilbert was the wife of their other child, Jesse Daniel Gilbert (1884-1966). The Gilberts lived in London Grove Township, Chester County, PA, neighboring the Glissons in Chatham/West Marlborough. Abbie and Ada being listed without their married surnames suggests that this photograph could be from before or around their respective marriage dates in 1912 and 1914.
