Scope and Content

This photograph collection primarily consists of the Hall and Williams family and their extended relations of Chester County, Pennsylvania. At some point in the 20th century the family and photographs extend to Meadville of Crawford County, Pennsylvania.

Context

Group photograph taken on "Hall porch" (DeEtta and Mabel Hall's home, formerly Rosanna B. Smith Hall's home) (c. 1910), Meadville, PA 1909; Nora Leona Merriman Brown (1877-1937), Lewis Stanton Brown (1907-1941), Adaline "Addie" Smith Beatty (b. 1837), Sarah Wilcox (1832-1917), Flora DeEtta Hall (1858-1932), Lucy Ann Gaylord Scott ("Mrs. Scott", 1837-1929) Elwood Glisson (1855-1938), and Amy Ida Glisson (1857-1944). Sarah Wilcox is likely Sarah Ann Smith Wilcox (1832-1917), the Hall sisters' aunt. She was the sister of their mother Rosanna B. Smith (1836-1905). Nora Brown is DeEtta's cousin Harriet ("Hattie") Wilcox Brown (1854-1926)'s daughter-in-law. Lewis Brown is Nora's son. Mrs. Scott lived in Crawford County since at least 1860, but has no identified familial connections with the Hall sisters or anyone else in the Local Families Photograph Collection. As a widow, she lived with her son Clifford J. Scott (b. 1880) as of the 1900 census. By the 1910 census, after Clifford had gotten married in 1905, she was living with Mabel and DeEtta as a "roommate."
