This photograph collection primarily consists of the Hall and Williams family and their extended relations of Chester County, Pennsylvania. At some point in the 20th century the family and photographs extend to Meadville of Crawford County, Pennsylvania.Context
Photograph of three unidentified women on the porch of Rosanna B. Smith Hall (1836-1905, middle), mother of Flora DeEtta Hall (1858-1932) and her siblings and aunt of Amy Ida Williams Glisson (1857-1944) and her siblings, at her house in Meadville, PA. The women could be Rosanna's sisters and/or daughters. Rosanna's daughters Flora DeEtta Hall and Lulu Mabel Hall (1863-1937) lived with her in this home as of the 1900 Census and remained living there up to the 1930 Census. Two of her sisters, Maria Smith Ellsworth (1841-1909) and "Addie" Smith Beatty (b.1837), lived nearby in Crawford. Lucy Ann Gaylord Scott (1837-1929) lived in the home as a "roommate" as of the 1910 Census, possibly overlapping with Rosanna being alive. The back of the photograph has branding from World View Co. at 375 Arch Street, Meadville, PA, a photography studio owned or managed by Rosanna's nephew, Henry Edgarton Ellsworth (1866-1954).Collection
