This photograph collection primarily consists of the Hall and Williams family and their extended relations of Chester County, Pennsylvania. At some point in the 20th century the family and photographs extend to Meadville of Crawford County, Pennsylvania.

Context

Tin-type photograph (c. 1875) of William Williams Sr. (1824-1886), son of Jesse Williams (1798-1872) and Sarah Hoopes (1791-1839), husband of Amy H. Williams (1823-1889), and father of Thomas H. Williams (1852-1907), Amy Ida Williams Glisson (1857-1944), and William Williams Jr. (1860-1935) The photograph is from photographer Lewis Horning (1834-1909)'s studio at 1109 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA which he operated in the mid-1870s. From the 1860s through 1890s he operated various studios in Philadelphia and Phoenixville, PA.
