Joseph Dudley Esq., General James Adams, Bristol Transcription: Joseph Dudley Esq: Captain General & Govern: in Chief in and [?] Her [?]: Province of the Massachusetts Bay in New England in America To James Adams Gent: Greeting by virtue of the power and Authority in and by Her Maj[?]: Royal Commission to me Granted [?] by [?] [?] to [?] and Appoint you to be Lieutenant of the [?] Company in the Town of Bristol and the Comand of Samuel Gallop Gent: Captain belonging to the Regiment of Militia within the County of Bristol whereof Benj Church Esq: is Colonel You are therefore carefully and Diligently to Discharge the Duty of a Lieutenant by Exercising and Well Disciplining as well as the Inferior Officers as souldiers of That Company And I Do hereby Command them to Obey you as their Lieutenant And you to Observe and follow such Orders and Directions from time to time, as you shall receive from [?] Colonel Captain, or any other [?] Superior Officers According to the Rules and Discipline of War in [?] of the Trust hereby reposed in you.
